Principal Backend Engineer

The Enterprise Integrations Platform team shape the future of workplace intelligence. We architect and build the critical systems that power seamless workplace operations, from access control and real-time presence tracking to the integration platform that connects customers’ existing workplace infrastructure and enables the workflows that drive adoption. 

As a team, we tackle diverse technical challenges: optimizing high-throughput systems for performance at scale, solving complex on-premises networking connectivity issues, building robust infrastructure with intelligent rate limiting and connection pooling, and creating developer-friendly SDKs that make integrations intuitive for both our internal teams and external partners.  

Responsibilities:

• Stand up new services that improve the safety, reliability, and accuracy of our access control systems. 
• Examine, improve, and challenge the existing modalities of how we manage ACS today. 
• Collaborate with team members to bounce ideas off each other and see delivery of value to customers from start to finish.
• Design MVPs with strong technical foundations, and iterate on them with product feedback. 

Qualifications:

• SaaS experience 
• **5 years of experience with solutioning backend technologies**
• **A technologist who understands all aspects of the development process. UI design, test, infrastructure, DevOps and development. And a desire to learn about a wide variety of technologies. **
• **Able to build and communicate realistic Functional designs that are secure and maintainable.**
• **Able to communicate architecture and design patterns that are scalable and long term solutions.**
• **10+ years of software engineering experience or coding experience.**
• **BS / MS in Computer Science or a related technical field.**
• **Created and supported APIs (REST, JSON/HTTP, GraphQL).**
• **5+ years Typescript in writing, maintaining, and debugging code in a production environment.** (Kotlin development experience is a plus if they are interested to learn). 
• **Experience designing and understanding large scale systems (>1M people).**
• **Strong technical foundations for patterns and anti-patterns in software engineering.**
• **Server-side development (not web based).**
• Atlassian products – Jira and Confluence.
• An inner product champion who takes pride in knowing and planning what great can look like, not just good.

Bonus:

• Testing methodology – you will be writing test infrastructure.
